One Aldwych Hotel
After a chequered history this imposing Grade II listed Covent Garden building was eventually sold to private owners for redevelopment. Working in collaboration with Jestico and Whiles Architects the hotel opened its doors in 1998 and remains one of the few independent hotels in London.
The hotel lobby bar is now a London legend, and synonymous for it’s stunning sculptures; André Wallace’s ‘Boatman with Oars’, and ‘Head of Dionysus’ by Emily Young. Combined with the tall flower stands, the sculptures dominate the huge space. Stunning high-back armchairs settle in the window bays, offering unrivalled views over Fleet Street and The Strand. The Lobby also holds the Indigo Café on the mezzanine level offering gluten and dairy free dining.
The evergreen Axis restaurant carries a ‘Roaring 20’s” vibe with it’s bold Manhattan inspired mural, and vivid jade padded fabric walls.
