One Aldwych Hotel

London, UK

After a chequered history this imposing Grade II listed Covent Garden building was eventually sold to private owners for redevelopment. Working in collaboration with Jestico and Whiles Architects the hotel opened its doors in 1998 and remains one of the few independent hotels in London.

The hotel lobby is now a London legend, and synonymous for it’s stunning sculptures; André Wallace’s ‘Boatman with Oars’, and ‘Head of Dionysus’ by Emily Young. Combined with the tall flower stands, the sculptures dominate the huge space, which contains the Lobby bar and Indigo café. Stunning high-back armchairs settle in the window bays, offering unrivalled views over Fleet Street and The Strand.

The evergreen Axis restaurant carries a ‘Roaring 20’s” vibe with it’s bold Manhattan inspired mural, and the stunningly cinematic Aldwych swimming pool nestles in the basement.

Bedrooms are simple and elegant with subtle pastel hues, making the most of the stunning views across central London and Waterloo Bridge.
